Rural Residency Programs
Two new residency programs – the Rural Family Medicine Residency and the Rural Psychiatry Residency – are committed to improving the health of the communities we serve and addressing healthcare inequities through direct patient care, community outreach, health professions education and scholarly inquiry.
Residents begin these programs within a large urban care center, St Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT, where they gain high-touch experience in to prepare for the practice of rural medicine.
Immediately following the PGY-1 year at St. Vincent's, residents will complete the last two years of their training in Northwest Connecticut where they receive the skills, experience and training they need to provide high-quality care in rural and underserved areas.
